Most of what you'll find online about Bealtaine isn't Irish. In this video, Jon O'Sullivan (Irish Seanchai and co-founder of Irish Pagan School) takes you through what actually happened on May Day in Ireland: the May Bush, not the Maypole; yellow flowers on the threshold; May Dew gathered before sunrise; the rule of no fire and no lending on May Morning; and the bonfire traditions from Munster and the southeast.

All content is sourced from primary and secondary scholarship on Irish folk tradition, including Kevin Danaher, The Year in Ireland (Mercier Press, 1972).
